This sector of Philadelphia expands east of Broad Street to 5th Street and between Market Street and South Street. It is composed of some of the smallest streets in the city. Washington Square is often referred to as Wash West or Center City East, and it is home to Thomas Jefferson University and Pennsylvania Hospital, two of the leading hospitals in the nation. In addition, Washington Square features Antique Row and Jewelers Row, both of which offer endless selections of unique shopping, and, like most things Philly, each different ‘row’ has its own special history. Washington Square Park is another one of the original open-spaced parks planned by William Penn; today it is a desirable area and continues to progress as a supreme place for city living.
